About Us

ButanGas, the origins

The story of ButanGas began on 13 December 1948 when Prof. Giuseppe Costantino Dragan – who moved to Italy in 1940 to study Political and Economic Sciences at the University of Rome after graduating in Law in Bucharest – realized the great potential of LPG, a little known product in the post-war period and founded ButanGas Spa in Italy. Since its early years, ButanGas was able to carve out an important role in the LPG market, organizing distribution throughout the country, including the islands, with a network of branches and LPG storage and bottling plants located in strategic regions.

With this in mind, in 1951 the company started the construction of a coastal warehouse in Naples, which today, is one of the largest in Italy with a total storage area of 18,710 m3. In the following years other plants were opened: Porto Torres (1955), Catania (1956), Bari (1960) Mantova (1961), Porcari (1962), Montalto Uffugo (1966), Pescara (1968), Volpiano (1972) and Cesana (2009). Strengthened by this philosophy, ButanGas has rapidly grown to become one of the main players on the Italian LPG market.
